Start-up an LCO2 Cylinder Test Pgm

Liquid CO2 Cylinder Program

Sampling & Shipping Tips

When required to obtain an LCO2 sample for quality testing, we recommend a 1L Sulfinert passivated DOT-approved sampling cylinder equipped with an 1800 psig burst disk and within its 5 yr hydrotest window. A 1L size is sufficient to perform all ISBT beverage-grade required tests except Sensory Method 15.0 (Odor of Snow) which requires a 20 lb LCO2 tank sample. Use of DOT approvied, burst-disk equipped, hydro-tested cylinders are required for the safe and proper shipment of your LCO2 samples to our laboratory. Customers can either select to supply their own cylinders in 1L or larger sizes or can rent or purchase appropriate 1L sampling cylinders and support equipment from us.

All LCO2 cylinder samples must be shipped as “hazardous materials” (dangerous goods) because of the high pressures involved (900+ psig). By law, this requires that your shipping personnel be properly trained and certified to ship dangerous goods such as LCO2 and that a reliable “hazmat-qualified” courier be used. ALI can provide recommended hazmat shipping instructions and appropriate hazmat shipping containers and labels to assist in the hazmat shipment process.

If renting our 1L SPC-1L sampling cylinders, simple, pictorial LCO2 sampling & hazmat shipping instructions are included. Customers should also review ISBT Sampling Method 1.0 for details. Our SPC-1L sampling cylinders are equipped with outage tubes (dip-tubes) that are properly sized to contain a safe, maximum amount of LCO2 as per CGA specifications.Use of an outage tube eliminates the need to perform labor-intensive, inconvenient cylinder-weighing steps. Also included with our rental cylinders is an ST-3 passivated, flexible, high pressure transfer tube. This tube has passivated 1/4” compression end ports and allows users to easily orient the SPC-1L cylinder in a vertical position for LCO2 sample filling. This ST-3 tube can be purchased if desired. Please see our “Sampling Product” pages or contact us if you need additional literature on these cylinders and support equipment.

Liquid CO2 Test Program Start-up – 4 Easy Steps

1.) If you are affiliated with beverage manufacturing or gas producing companies that already have preferred customer contractual pricing with us, please indicate this to us and we will e-mail you an appropriate group contract for review. These flexible contracts have many options. You would select the service option that is ideal for you, sign/date it and return it to us by either e-mail/fax or courier. We in turn would sign/date and return a completed contract copy to you.

If you are not associated with an existing group contract but wish to set up a service contract with us, please e-mail us with your yearly testing frequency requirements and we will develop an appropriate reduced-fee contract for you. Testing Service contracts are not necessary, but are recommended for those customers who must perform periodic CO2 quality testing – as they allow us to offer you list pricing discounts. If a service contract is not ideal, then we would e-mail/fax or courier to you an appropriate price quotation.

Before sending you an appropriate quotation or invoice and any rental sampling kits, customers should review the information about  LCO2 sampling cylinder requirements and accessories you may need for safe and proper LCO2 sampling and shipment. Common accessories include passivated transfer tubing, pressure relief hardware, fittings, personal safety equipment such as cryo-safety gloves and hazmat labeling. Customers must also ensure that if using their own cylinders that they meet all DOT and IATA shipping requirements. It is also required that their shipping personnel are properly trained and hazmat certified and that a hazmat-qualified courier be used.

Some of the more common items requested by customers are listed on page 1. Please contact if you may need additional sampling items. Accessory equipment items can either be rented or purchased from us directly. In some cases, a convenient pay-out plan can be arranged for equipment purchases. Please contact us if a pay-out plan is desired.

Note 1: If signed, hard-copy, original report documents are required to be mailed to you, there will be an additional charge for this service. Please indicate this requirement at the time you are requesting a quotation or invoice.

2.) After a signed contract or if a quotation + subsequent purchase order have been received, we would e-mail or fax to you an appropriate invoice + bank account information for wire transfer of funds. Alternatively, a check by a US-affiliated bank or major credit card would be accepted.

3.) Upon our receipt of either a wire-transfer payment, check or credit card approval, the appropriate CO2 sampling kits + simple pictorial sampling instructions + return shipping containers + return shipping papers + any purchased sampling accessories would be immediately express shipped to you.

Upon receipt of the LCO2 sample cylinder kits, you would obtain the appropriate CO2 sample by following our enclosed pictorial sampling instructions then make arrangements for the return sample shipment to us as a HAZMAT.

NOTE: CAREFULLY FOLLOW OUR INSTRUCTIONS FOR DESCRIBING THE SAMPLE ON ENCLOSED RETURN SHIPPING DOCUMENTS!

4.) Upon arrival of your sample at our laboratory, we will perform all required tests and e-mail or fax a complete final report to you about your LCO2 quality. If you have any questions about your report you can call or e-mail or fax us and we would be most happy to explain any test result or make any desired recommendations. For customers using their own sample cylinders, we would perform any desired clean-up / maintenance service and return the cylinder as requested.

That’s it! – just 4 simple steps to start a certified CO2 quality testing program!
