ISBT CO₂ Sensory Tests

In order to properly perform ISBT Sensory Method 15.0 "APPEARANCE AND ODOR FROM SOLID CO₂" (SNOW TEST) and Method 16.0 "EVALUATION OF APPEARANCE, ODOR AND TASTE OF CARBON DIOXIDE IN WATER", ALI offers the Sensory-15/16 Kit™¹.

NOTE 1: To perform ISBT Methods 15.0 + 16.0, the user must also have support equipment that is NOT included in the Sensory-15/16 Kit™. This includes: passivated 1L sample cylinder, passivated, flexible, high-pressure sampling tubing, passivated snow-making kit, passivated vaporizer, passivated pressure regulator/needle valve assembly (10 psig maximum outlet) or an approved safety valve/pressure limiting device, inert, plastic hose, passivated metal and/or inert plastic connecting fittings + personal safety equipment.

With a Sensory-15/16 Kit™, ISBT tests can be rapidly and easily performed by non-technical personnel after some sensory method training. It is designed for:

Components

-FL-250: 2, Rugged, heavy wall, 250 cc conical glass flasks (24/40) with a single 200 cc calibration mark. One flask is used for the "Sample" and one as a "Control" during ISBT Sensory Methods 15.0 + 16.0.

-IMP-16: 2, Rugged, heavy wall glass impingers (24/40) designed for the FL-250ML. These impingers have 1/4" OD inlet + outlet ports, a glass stem that extends to within 5 mm of the flask bottom and a 1 mm stem opening for efficient impurity scrubbing (required for ISBT Method 16.0).

-DNUT-5: A vinyl-coated donut weight (0.5 lb). This weight secures a 250 cc sample flask during testing.

-CAP-1/4: 1 pack of 100, 1/4" ID plastic caps for impinger ports.

-INST-15/16: A set of Sensory-15/16 Kit™ instructions with pictorial examples**.

 - SPC-1L: 1L Sulfinert passivated metal cylinder for ISBT Sampling Method 1.0.

- ST-3: 3' PTFE-Lined, Flexible High Pressure Sampling Tubing with Sulfinert passivated fittings.

-SPRA-1800: A Sulfinert passivated, 1800 psig (12,400 kPa) pressure-relief assembly for interfacing ST-3 tubing to a CO₂ source-sampling valve and to either an SPC-1L cylinder, or a SnowMaker 1.3 Kit™.

-CS-25: Cylinder Support for secure, vertical mounting of an SPC-1L during testing.

-SnowMaker-1.3 Kit™: Sulfinert^® passivated snow-making kit for performing ISBT Sampling Method 1.3.

-CRYGL-14: The safe sampling of liquid CO₂ requires several types of safety equipment including cryogenic safety gloves. ALI recommends these 14” long gloves for ISBT liquid CO₂ sampling.

-SAFE-T-SHIELD: This ergonomic face shield is recommended for all ISBT sampling.

-SAFE-T-HEAR: These adjustable, safety ear protectors are recommended for ISBT snow-sampling.

-VPR-120: Sulfinert passivated CO₂ Vaporizer-Pressure Regulator (120 VAC) for ISBT Method 16.0.

-ZCheck-5XL: Sulfinert passivated 5-psig safety valve assembly. This kit interfaces a VPR-120 or GAS-5XLT™ to a glass impinger/flask unit and is highly recommended for the safe performance of ISBT Method 16.0.
