Sorbent 1.4 Sampling Equipment

Sorbent-based gas sampling is ideal for efficiently trapping and concentrating ultra-trace levels of certain volatile impurities such as benzene or semi-volatile vapors such as from glycols, glycerols, phenols, solvents, oil mists, trace metal-bearing vapors such as mercury, arsine and other impurities. Sorbent tubes are required for sampling any impurity that may not be chemically stable or would not remain gaseous in polymer bags or cylinders. For example, glycols and phenols do not have a very high vapor pressure, and if sample gas containing these impurity vapors are collected in a sample bag, they can easily condense on the walls before an analysis is performed, resulting in erroneously low test results.

In order to properly perform ISBT Sampling Method 1.4 "LIQUID CARBON DIOXIDE SAMPLING USING SORBENT TUBES" or for CO2 feedgas testing, ALI offers its Sorbent 1.4TM Kit. This kit contains all necessary, passivated hardware for sorbent-tube based gas sampling + simple pictorial sampling/shipping instructions. For example, included in our kit are a flexible, passivated transfer tubing (ST-3), Sulfinert passivated metering valve assembly, sorbent connective sleeves, flowmeter assembly and digital timer. For final product sampling, our kit requires a pressure regulated (e.g. 20 psig delivery), vaporized LCO2 gas stream. For CO2 feedgas applications either a constant source pressure (e.g. 10 - 100 psig), or pressure-regulated (e.g. 10 -20 psig delivery) or pressure-assisted (booster pump with controlled 10 - 20 psig outlet pressure) gas stream. ALI is also a discount distributor of sorbent tubes and can offer advice as to the optimal sorbent tube for a specific application.    

A key advantage of a Sorbent 1.4TM Kit, is that because the sorbent tubes used are made of solid, non-hazardous granular material (e.g. carbon or silica), your collected CO2 sample can be properly and economically shipped by DOT / IATA regulations as a non-hazardous industrial sample of "no-commercial value"! 

 Every Sorbent 1.4TM Kit™ includes a set of simple, pictorial sampling instructions for liquid CO2 and for sampling high or low pressure feedgas streams. ALI is also a manufacturer and worldwide distributor of all recommended vaporizer-pressure regulators, pumps, connective hardware and safety equipment for proper ISBT Sampling Method 1.4 including:

- VPR-120-60-S: Sulfinert passivated CO2 vaporizer - pressure regulator (PR-60, 0-60 psig delivery model with ¼’ compression outlet port in a “straight” configuration is recommended). This unit is equipped with 1/4" compression inlet/outlet fittings, an inlet needle valve for vaporization control + pressure relief devices for over-pressure safety.

- 222-Pump: A small, rugged, battery powered pump that can be used for sirbent tube collections involving low pressure (LT 5 psig) CO2 feedgas streams

- ST-1: Sulfinert & PTFE passivated, 1' [30 cm] high-pressure rated, flexible ss sampling tubing with 1/4" compression fittings.

- CRYGL-14: The safe sampling of liquid CO2 requires several types of safety equipment including gloves designed for handling cryogenic materials. ALI recommends these 14" long gloves for all ISBT liquid CO2 sampling.

- SAFE-T-SHIELD: This ergonomic face shield is recommended for all ISBT liquid CO2 sampling.
